READING BOOKS >>> WATCHING MOVIES

Why is reading books worth more than watching movies?

Books, unlike movies, contain meanings, not images. The better the book, the more thoughts and ideas it carries, while a movie can be completely devoid of them, and it can remain good and even classic even in this situation. After all, like in our life: at first we can't read and our mother or grandmother reads to us at night, and then we gradually learn to read - and we find the meanings on our own. It is the same here: yeah, a well-staged voiceover reads a profound text to us quite well, but independent penetration into the depth of meanings cannot replace even the most brilliant cinematic monologue.

Whether we like it or not, visual and verbal art will always vary: the former will always be more vivid, clearly concrete and intrusive, the latter more elusive, and for this reason more penetrating and profound.
